Mavrhatey

Mavrhatey

When was the last time that you visited an authentic Ethiopian house, tasted Injera and experienced a tale of a ?journey from up close

At kibbutz Evron, which is in the Western Galilee, awaits you "Mavrhatey” – an authentic Ethiopian house built out of mud and straw, just like countless other "gojos” that are spread around Ethiopia – which will provide you with an experience that will stay with you for a long time

"Mavrhatey”, which means "my light”, started as the initiative of a very special woman, Yonie Skiba, who by hosting groups according to the Jewish Ethiopian tradition and values hopes to bring people closer within the social tapestry of Israel

Yonie Skiba came to Israel from Ethiopia many years ago and works in group guidance, psychodrama and teaching, but beyond all of these official titles, Yonie will provide you with an unforgettable, unique and exciting experience

During your visit at "Mavrhatey” you will be able to experience various authentic experiential and enriching workshops that are organized for groups and various organizations (several families can also organize as a group)

Among the many experiences which simulate magical moments from the Ethiopian village are: "mutual respect in the Ethiopian culture”, "the way from Sudan to Jerusalem” – the story of the connection with and immigration to Israel, "values, tradition and cultural codes”, "mother” – the mother in the Ethiopian village and the connection to the modern western world, and more. Especially unique is the coffee ("buna”) ceremony – a fascinating tradition from the Ethiopian village life that symbolizes resting from the day’s work and nourishing each other. Guests can also participate in a unique psychodrama workshop which will reveal to them a new and wonderful world (including their own inner world) or in a welcoming of the Sabbath or various holiday ceremonies. The guests can also take part in women’s circles or Ethiopian arts and crafts workshops and more. Private events can also be held at the "Mavrhatey” hut – such as will never be forgotten by you and your guests. In other words, the culture and tradition of the Ethiopian Jews were never before experienced in such an original, authentic and exiting way

A visit to "Mavrhatey” is for groups only and must be arranged in advance
